A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed in the jawbone where it bonds with the
bone. Dental implants fulfill the same function as the natural root of the tooth and can replace one
or more teeth that have been lost. Dental implants can be placed in both the upper and lower jaw.
If too little jawbone exists for anchoring the implant, it is possible to regenerate bone in such
cases. The advantage offered by implants is that it eliminates the need to grind down other teeth,
as is the case with a bridge. Thanks to major developments in recent years, implants can be used to
replace individual teeth and can also be used as anchors for bridges or prostheses.
